“Nightbreed” Director’s Cut Extras Announced!
Hello Friends:
SCREAM FACTORY has just announced on their Facebook page the final specs for the NIGHTBREED: DIRECTOR’S CUT release! Read it all below. But first, an announcement from Clive Barker’s office about what the NIGHTBREED: DIRECTOR’S CUT is.
The Nightbreed Director’s Cut is an entirely different film than the one which was released in theaters. Its 20 minutes longer than the theatrical cut, but it contains over 40 minutes of new and altered footage. Clive oversaw the reconstruction and edit himself, personally ensuring that, at long last, he was able to tell the story he always wanted to tell, but until now, had never been given the chance. Once the scenes were reordered, and the original film footage restored, the entire film received a brand new sound mix and color pass. It is, in every way, a different movie. It contains more story, more monsters, and there’s even a musical umber. Ultimately, what we’ve delivered is a love story 25 years in the making.
Now for the release specs, verbatim from Scream Factory!

Thanks for posting this news item, Jose! This is an incredible bunch of extras. More than I dared wish for, actually. Honestly, where in the world did they find rehearsal footage? I remember listing off the dream list of extras I wanted a couple years ago and this is pretty much it, including a feature on Ralph McQuarrie and Bob Keen. About the only thing missing is “David Cronenberg: Why I was Decker.” Ah well, I was just happy he finally gave an interview about Nightbreed in Fangoria, so there is no use in getting greedy.
We also know there is an interview with Neil Gaiman so they still have a few names that aren’t listed.
Absolutely. Very good news! And don’t forget that Shadows in Eden has a great article on Nightbreed, with a lot of Cronenberg quotes from 1989 and 1990 on page 341, chapter 36 “Flights of Fancy”. 😉
Hehe I just got my copy of Shadows in Eden out last night. I’ve been trying to stop reading about Nightbreed as much as possible until the director’s cut is in my hands but I can’t help myself.
