Clive Barker to supply Afterword for Stephen King Classic
I thought I’d share this cool piece of news that I found on Revelations Facebook page. Cemetery Dance Publications is releasing a new Deluxe edition of the classic Stephen King vampire novel Salem’s Lot (my favorite King book). There’s a lot of cool features that are being put into this edition but what I found really interesting was that Clive Barker will be providing the Afterword for it. I would love to see these two masters come together one day and write a book together. For me that would be a dream come true.
Anyway, here’s a link providing all the information on the Salem’s Lot Deluxe Edition.
I assume it’s the same one he did many years ago, isn’t it? I remember trying to find a copy of Salem’s Lot with Clive’s intro for a while in the 90’s…I never did get to read it until getting Phil and Sarah’s book “The Painter, The Creature and The Father of Lies.”
As for the Clive and Steve-o collaboration, they did try to get together and do a movie once, with CB writing a screenplay for Graveyard Shift. Like most things movie related, it was mentioned once and then faded away.
I didn’t know he’d done one already. It might be. I can’t answer for sure on that one.
And thanks sharing that about King and Clive trying to get a movie off the ground together. I never knew that.
The King and Barker movie sounded like a Fangoria fan’s dream at the time. I think Tom Savini was going to direct it and George Romero was producing. The box office results for Savini’s NOTLD remake probably sealed it’s fate.
I loved Stephen King first, by the way. The Stand and many of his early novels are what got me into reading.
I got REALLY got back into reading about 8 years (I had stopped reading books after highschool and got more into graphic novels) and I decided to read the entire Dark Tower series. Then that got me into wanting read more from him. I think I’ve read over thirty books by him in the last couple of years. I’ve read all the old classic stuff, (I still need to read the Bachman books though) and some of the early 90’s stuff as well. I really enjoyed the novel, The Girl that Loved Tom Gordon. That was a good one. I need to get Dr. Sleep since I read The Shining this past summer.
But all of the end of last year and this year has been going back to Clive Barker (who I read a lot in highschool) and reading all the stuff that I’ve already read/ haven’t read. I’m about done with Weaveworld and then I’ll Imajica after that. The I’ll start the Abarat series. But Imajica will probably take a while to get through. Probably a couple of months or longer since I’m in school at the moment trying to get my life back in order.
Yeah, I bet waiting between the Dark Tower books was very hard! When I started reading them they were already out so I’m sure when they finally came out they probably meant a lot more to you than to me. Don’t get my wrong I love that series. The Gunslinger and The Wastelands are in my top ten favorite books. Did you like the ending to it? I thought it was pretty cool and I didn’t understand all the hate that it got.
And I started the beginning of Imajica last night. It seems like it goes off in a lot of different directions.
I got into King in the early 80’s, so I read his books as they came out for the most part. (The wait between Dark Tower books was excruciating.) There were a bad group of books around the early 90’s that soured me on him for about a decade. I picked up a few of the recent novels last year and I actually think he’s getting better!
I kind of envy you, Rob. You get to read Imajica for the first time, so take your time and savor it.
Hey Dave,
I just picked up a new King book that I’ve never heard of called Blockcade Billy. It was only $1 at a second handbook shop. Is it any good? It sounds pretty cool.
