Thanks for this episode. Bloodline is my favorite movie in the series. I enjoyed hearing your opinions about it and also the behind the scenes stuff you talked about.
Regarding your discussion about Angelique deferring to Pinhead, I’d always thought it was because he had a higher position in a special/religious sect (the cenobites), so she owed him a certain respect. She was a demon princess, so he didn’t have absolute power over her, either. I thought of it like in the past, religious leaders had power a certain power over royalty. I’m probably way off with this theory and influenced by the Scarlet Gospels. My timeline is different because I’m pretty much a new fan.
I see what you mean about Pinhead saying Angelique was taking too long to sway Merchant, and then he went ahead taking his time trying to manipulate him his own way. I wonder if it isn’t because it wasn’t so much the time frame he cared about, but that her ways didn’t excite him. It’s a pain game to him and she wasn’t playing by his rules. By using the wife and son, he could have fun torturing his victims while ultimately getting (or so he thinks) the gateway he wants.
I liked the scene with the dove, too, and I admit I thought the twins were funny.
I wish the movie had been longer so more time could be spent in the past, present and future.
Katie,
Here’s a link to Peter Atkins 4th draft of Bloodline. Give it a read if you have the time. It’s well worth it. And answers a lot of questions that the movie doesn’t.

I would also try and track down a copy of the film’s workprint. Thought still heavily flawed you get to see a version of the film that’s a little closer to Kevin Yagher’s original intentions. It also has a much better ending.

Thank you for the additional info about the script and movie, Rob.
I agree there are probably a number of reasons for it, it just bugs me a bit that Angelique spends the movie getting domitated by men, and once Jaques stands in Hell’s way, out of the hundreds of years she was on the earth, she gets maybe a couple days of freedom before she gets re-fashioned and enslaved by Pinhead. We see her and the other cenobites standing behind him for the rest of the movie.
I agree with you. I wish the movie wasn’t a mess, and had a bigger budget and no studio interference. I still like it though. It’s head and shoulders above every sequel that came after it.
