“HELLRAISER: THE TOLL” Is Coming!!!

Spread the love

Hello Friends!
Exciting news today as Subterranean Press just announced on their website the opening of pre-orders for HELLRAISER: THE TOLL, an upcoming Hellraiser novel based on a story by Clive Barker written by Mark Miller of Seraphim, to be released next January. “The Toll” tells the story of what happened between Clive Barker’s iconic works The Hellbound Heart and its follow up, The Scarlet Gospels. The interior illustrations will be done by Clive Barker himself! Here’s the synopsis from Subterranean’s own website:

Hellraiser: The Toll tells the story of what happened between Clive Barker’s iconic works The Hellbound Heart and its follow up, The Scarlet Gospels.

Thirty years after Kirsty Singer escaped from the clutches of the Hell Priest, Pinhead, and lived to fight another day, her life has never been the same. Every few years she fashions a new name, a new identity, and a new home for herself; She is a woman who is running from her past at all costs, which is why it comes as such a surprise when she receives a mysterious letter in the mail, addressed to the woman she’s been running from over half her life.
Answering the letter’s query, she begins a descent down a rabbit hole to the ultimate confrontation. Her actions stir something unnamable in the ether, and throw her into a game where nothing—not even what she sees in front of her very eyes—can be trusted.
With equal parts economy and eloquence, author Mark Alan Miller brings to life the beginning of the end as The Toll expands the Hellraiser universe, and shows that before Harry D’Amour’s adventures in The Scarlet Gospels, there was a first witness to Pinhead’s infernal plan.

For Hellraiser fans,  in some ways this is nothing new: We’ve enjoyed the work of different writers working within a Barker-created story like most of the Hellraiser movies, but the main “quality” sequels were the ones when we had scribe and Rolling Darkness Revue performer Pete Atkins write the scripts for Hellraiser 2,3 and 4— like I’ve said before, if Clive was the father of the Hellraiser movies, Atkins was its nurturing mother. We all remember the eloquence he offered the Hellpriest. There were also a host of comic book writers like Erik Saltzgaber, D.G. Chichester and Jan Strnad working to create some mind-blowing Hellraiser comic book tales in the Epic Marvel Anthology series in the early 90’s.

The Hellraiser universe has always been very flexible in its various incarnations, whether it’s film, comics or novel, and I think this is mostly due to the amazing world-building skills of Clive Barker. This new volume will feature the skills of Mark Allan Miller (Boom! StudiosHellraiser, Next Testament, Hellraiser: Bestiary, The Steam Man and the recent Clive Barker’s Next Testament novel written by Mark Miller – check Episode #150) working on a story by Clive Barker, so you know you’re in for a good time.
